Reality Bites
Looks like Ontario’s “Premier Dad” is going to get a tough lesson from the teachers’ unions. As the province tries to rein in spending to cut the deficit (caused by spending like crazy) and deal with the Drummond Report recommendations, the federations are not at all happy.
While the province talks tough, the unions are refusing to even sit down with provincial negotiators. On the table—cutting out the sick leave benefit payout on retirements for newly hired teachers and no wage increases for two years, even if you move up the grid. Cue the war whoops.
The current Liberal government is about to learn a lesson from the federations—-the only party they support is the union party.

You’ve got his name wrong Doretta. As of this past week and thanks to a Superintendent with the Kitchener/Waterloo school board who feels the education system is the “co-parent” of students, it’s “Co-Daddy Dalton” (sounds like a rapper’s name but it works VERY well.)
Interesting times for sure, but for those of us who have been following things closely over the past years, we knew this day would come.
Interestingly also that over the last 40 years, each successive government has come to this same point.
Although among Premiers I’m pretty sure that Mike Harris was the only one who didn’t freeze wages or recommend Rae days.
