Here's the Ontario premier's plea for labour buy-in. It's pretty slick. Notice he's trying to go directly to teachers, as opposed to their unions. Will it work? See the title. H/T MW

Around the 25 second mark, their logo pops up.

Wondering how much it cost to produce it?

It will end up in the lap of parents and on top of all the kid’s head as usual, that is how our premier corrupted our education system for many years and lost the transparency and accountability   .

If they strike Matt, you should get vouchers-there are thousands of unemployed teachers to teach your child.

There will pain trying to get the Unions to become child centric.
The teacher deal is not in keeping with the real world.
Too bad he gave into them to buy votes. Now the strong medicine has to come out.

Politics,what a sham.

I actually think it’s very smart of McGuinty to go at it this way, for the reason you suggest Doretta but also because it puts the question very publicly to teachers about how they’re going to do their part in these tough economic times.

I also believe that in choosing specifically the pay freeze and sick days, he’s enabling ordinary Ontarians to relate because who hasn’t had a pay freeze in the past years, and those sick day benefits? A luxury.

McGuinty also must already know that many individual teachers are ok with this. Maybe a disconnect with their unions is going to become clearer in the days and months ahead?

I am somewhat confused by the sentence: “Notice he?s trying to go directly to teachers, as opposed to their unions.” This seems to imply two different groups as though there is some outside agency called a union imposing itself on teachers. The union is simply the collective of all the teachers. Union = Teachers. There is no dichotomy.

I cannot speak for other federations, but OSSTF is the most democratic institution I have ever belonged to. Direction comes from the membership, and the leaders elected to serve the membership cannot act without a mandate from the members. Certainly the leaders do what we pay them to do?research the issues and make recommendations?but they are powerless to move forward without a mandate.

If union= teacher Why Mr Premier came out with the video aiming to teachers not union ?

Posted by Medhat on 03/05 at 02:29 PM

That video was not aimed at teachers. It was intended for the public. OSSTF has been asking the Premier to discuss these issues for eight months, and their office has been silent. Ontario secondary school teachers recognize that tough decisions need to be made, but they are made best with dialogue. The purpose of the Youtube video was to cast the government in a specific public role. Their first message to teachers was an ultimatum delivered by a few corporate lawyers and a retired judge who specializes in bankruptcy and corporate restructuring. We heard this message before the video came out.

The Premier was elected only with teachers support and their union(God knows what was under the table)
Don Drummond,  Dominic Giroux ,Susan Pigott and
Carol Stephenson was behind that report , it is very important to read the report again and again to realize how rapidly we are going down the hill (not only chapters 6,7,8,9 but all of the report )Regarding the special need kids , it is very clear how the system discriminate them and used them to milk the tax payers money like never before not only in Don report but also in General auditor reports from previous years ,we all have trust in our educators , teachers, administrators and Canadian public to fix what need to be fix .
