The 50 candidates for Miss USA this year were asked whether they think evolution should be taught in school. For the most part, they think that both evolution and creationism should be taught, giving students the chance to make up their minds for themselves - a perfect example of the dominant educational belief that kids should be taught that they are all entitled to their own opinions and that teachers should not be telling them what to think.

Bad ‘educational belief’, or good PR spin?

One could also read this story as a natural outgrowth of the creationism/evolution debate in the US. In some states in the Bible Belt, publishers have to fight to include evolution in the textbooks. Some boards exclude the teaching of evolution.

Would be a good PR move to make sure that all contestants were coached to come up with this answer - thereby not upsetting anyone. Don’t you find it odd that all contestants came up with the same answer? Ladies from states as diverse as Arkansas, New York, California and Alaska all think exactly the same way? Coaching - not coincidence.
