My oldest and her friends knew some of the songs by heart, but when my youngest came along, I actually dug out the videos for a simple way of memorizing what is a conjunction and other other grammar stuff. I selected the Electricity video for a reason, because my child’s first science fair project was on static electricity, and the above video got things started to build the knowledge networks, and she came up with a fine experiment of the power of static electricity, the cats and a set of balloons. Cats were not at all appreciative but she did received top marks, and her picture in the local newspaper.
Hello all,
I too watched schoolhouse rock while growing up and when my own little toddlers were of an age bought the entire library on DVD. They still sing, to my chagrin, ‘I am a bill’.
I now have a smart board in my classroom and I draw on my and my children’s sense of wonder and look for amazing musical clips that support curriculum. If there is 5 minutes available at the end of a class I ask for their favourite from last year—- and we sing along.
It is happening in classrooms across Ontario each and every day - wow!
