What a difference an election makes!

June 18, 2015 by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 06:54 AM

For at least 25 years, Alberta private schools have been eligible to receive 60%-70% of the per-pupil funding that the province spends on its public school students, and this was vociferously opposed by the NDP party when it was in opposition. What a difference an election makes! Now that the NDP party is in power in Alberta, the new minister of education is defending the province's policy, saying "the number of 'delivery methods' in Alberta’s education system 'allows parents to select the method that they feel will best help their child reach his or her potential'.”  more

It may also have come to the minister's attention how much money the policy is saving taxpayers. Far from "draining the public system to feed the private system", the policy saves roughly $3,000 or $4,000 per child per year. With more than 11,000 private school students, the province is saving approximately $40 million a year. H/T DW
