Uberfication
There's an interesting column in today's Globe and Mail about Uberfication. The columnist, Konrad Yakabuski, discusses how Uber is not only shaking up the taxi industry but also making free market believers out of the millennial generation.
Unfortunately, there is no immediate applicability to industries that are being massively subsidized by the government. The reason Uber is so successful is that it offering a superior service that costs the same as its rivals' service. But when industries - at least industries where the products or services are very expensive - are fully subsidized by governments, they are immune to Uberfication.
Perhaps the Millennials, with their new understanding of the power of free markets, will start to press for Uberfication of the education system.
