Thursday at the Movies (Union Bullies)

April 23, 2015 by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 07:26 AM

I thought our followers might be interested in Chris Christie's take on the teachers' unions in light of the strike action in Ontario. Just FYI, in Ontario every teacher has to belong to the union in order to teach in a publicly-funded school - there is no opting out. Furthermore, each teacher pays more than $1,000 a year, and there are about 115,000 full-time teachers, and of course then there are the part-time and occasional teachers. As well, many education workers also belong to a teachers' union. It would be interesting to know how much revenue the Ontario teachers' unions take in, but for sure it's considerably more than in New Jersey.

There is NEVER any objection to the way dues are spent in Ontario.  I doubt there is any in NJ. There is nothing illegal about it. The closed shop was granted in 1944 in Ontario by a conservative government.

At least 1/2 the money for the Working Families coalition, which campaigned against Mr Hudak came from teachers.
Mr Hudak went to court and lost. The Supreme Court has ruled in Canada that unions can spend their money however they like unless a province or Canada passes a law which end BOTH union and Corporate financing at the same time.

The corporations have made it clear they oppose this idea.

Working ‘Families’ must think their money is now wasted since Wynne’s budget is essentially implementing Hudak’s public sector job loss attrition plan.

“Accumulation and exercise of raw power” because of dollar value.  Here’s a concept…...why don’t we just hand over every new child that is born and let the union look after them.  Better yet…..give them all to Doug.  After all….parents are just minions who don’t have parenting skills (or something to that effect as intimated by Doug in the past).  That way our children can all be indoctrinated by the will of the government and we can ultimately enjoy and anarchist-like society.  What angers me most is that as Canadians, known as friendly and placid, are collectively allowing union power and control to continue.

I don’t disagree with Doretta totally. Wynne is not going nearly as far as Hudak would have but enough to lose the next election if she does not learn. If PCs choose Christine Elliot they can have a revival of sorts. Then Wynne will have to fight a 2 front war.

To Karen I agree to this extent,  most children would be far better off I quality state based early childhood education from 2 years on than in any other possible setting. It is coming, slowly but it is coming.

When the union billboards go up saying “Kathleen Wynne wants to raise the size of your child’s class”  there will lots of recrimination.

Inside the federations it is generally felt “our heart is in the NDP but our brain is in the Liberals” because they are more able to keep the Tories out. As a result they give hundreds of thousands of dollars to both parties.
