How they cling to their chains!

July 17, 2013 by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 04:46 AM

You know how battered wives stay with their abusive husbands, saying that he truly loves her and that was the last time and so on? Well, here's a blog along the same lines, only it involves a teachers' union rep who's suffered at the hands of his union and yet finds reasons why it's okay. H/T DW

The keeping to the status-quo crowd, will find any reason to justified keeping to the status-quo.

POSTED ON BEHALF OF DOUG

Every round of bargaining each side begins with a list of demands.

The union says we want a raise, these benefit improvements, these + changes in working conditions…

Management begins with take ways, you must give up these things you will get no raise blah blah blah…

Teachers soon see who is ‘on their side’ and who is not.

Every time a stike or sanction vote is requested (a secret ballot BTW) there is an 80-90% vote for the union position.

If a member is accused of an infraction guess who defends them.

Members are very aware who is on their side.

In BC Bill Vander Zalm made membership in BCTF totally voluntary. 85% had resigned in one month and 95% within 3 months.

None of this should be very surprising. We call it solidarity.

I have a love/hate relationship with my union much like the one I have with this blog.

Both groups suffer a type of myopia that will prevent them from being powerful agents of change. Both groups believe—absolutely believe.

greetings from the grey zone where progress and reality flourish.
