Creating Sound Readers

This message wil be of interest to readers in the Barrie area.

An excellent teacher has just started a small private practice (one day/week so far) out of Georgian College’s Speech, Hearing & Language Clinic in Barrie. She will be offering parent-child interactive workshops, as well as workshops for parents and teachers. She is very excited about being able to offer teachers and parents a place outside of the school system where they can get early literacy information/instruction.

The teacher's name is Martha Kovack, and here is Martha's website.

Lucky kids…...and news on the American front - “Decoding Dyslexia: How a New Jersey Parents’ Group Started a Movement”

I do hope the teacher is connected with the health and other professionals because it won’t be the public education system recommending parents and teachers to avail of her services. I certainly wished there had places like this when my child was small. She would have benefited greatly on a early start starting around 3 1/2 years old, but back in 1997, it was not even on the radar. The advances being made in reading science and reading disorders have advanced at a rapid pace, to the point that dyslexia can be confirmed at the age of two. Good news for kids like mine who have a major speech delay….......
