Chicago, Chicago, that toddlin’ town
In Chicago, the teachers are in the second week of their strike. According to this article, the majority of the public in Chicago support the teachers. As JE points out, it’s noteworthy that the Chicago teachers were able to get the public on its side, whereas the Ontario unions appear to be going in exactly the opposite direction. Perhaps the Ontario teachers’ unions should take notes.
Jay Greene makes an interesting point when he observes that Chicago charter school students are doubly fortunate. Not only are they not affected by the strike, but also they are learning more.
In any case, it’s hard to see how striking teachers are good for kids.

Newsweek: We Are All Socialists Now Feb 07 2009
It remains for you and me to measure just how much of a SOCIALIST !
I hate it. Such a chump! [dupe, sap, sucker, easy target, sitting duck . . .]
The well-laid plans of the Fabian Socialists has come to fruition. See the book, “100 Years of Fabian Socialism”, 1984, extolling their motto:
EDUCATE, AGITATE, ORGANIZE
Now, nearly 30 years later (130 years of successfully educating, agitating, organizing) we have this motto in our face:
EDUCATE, AGITATE, OCCUPY
See the material of the International Socialist Organization (ISO) and their latest conference, SOCIALISM 2012, CHICAGO, JUNE 28 – JULY 1 — http://www.socialismconference.org/ — laying the groundwork for the current Chicago teacher strike.

So, let’s be honest. We’ve been either seduced — willingly or unwillingly — into the socialist camp. It’s a matter of assessing our degree of complicity in the current turmoil.
If it weren’t for the dubious “blessing” of economic crises we would not have had it so clearly revealed — this successful political takeover and conversion by stealth of economies, mindsets and educational systems.
