Library:

I have often scrolled through the virtual library here, and in fact have purchased for my own collection many of the selections that you feature.  That being said, I still wanted to ask about how borrowing one of your books works… or is your collection not a lending library?

I also once wondered if the SQE has a way of locating any Direct Instruction schools in Canada, anywhere.  I am looking to work at a real DI school, or at least one that makes more sense, or else I quit the profession next year.  I have found the search difficult, and I could use some help.

* another reason for school choice:  Teachers could then locate/apply to schools where the working philosophy is more akin to their own.

Thanks for having a good blog.

To borrow one of our books, just send me an e-mail (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)).

I too have searched for DI schools - with no luck. Perhaps you could apply to the Association for Direct Instruction? (And be sure to let me/us knos if you get any joy!)

madteacher, are you talking about a school that uses Direct Instruction exclusively?

Yeah, a school that has DI implemented such that each teacher is fully aware of how ‘faultless instruction’ works and each have been fully trained in how to deliver a DI lesson.  Also in a DI implemented school, the ADI sets up a assessment program and sends a pro-level DI instructor to work along with the school for the initial 10 months.  The support is slowly lessened in the second year of implementation, but always present as needed. Zig himself told me the DI portion of the day in a fully implemented school should take 3 hours leaving the remaining time in the school day to teach any other thing the school likes -in any method, with the one caveat that reading, speaking, writing and mathematics are NOT taught in any other portion of the day (alternative instruction methodologies confuse the learner, and in almost every way actively work against the process that DI sets up in the learner, ie. faultless instruction principles.)

Anyways, I am sure that attending the ADI conference this year in Eugene OR would explain all of this better to the interested.  I know that I am going!!

Bye for now.
