A Vanishing Breed

Here’s more from the governor of New Jersey. Love him or hate him, it’s great to have a politician who speaks his mind.

Comments

The teachers, thanks to their unions, have lost all respectability, so it’s time that someone like Gov. Christie takes a stand in favour of the children and taxpayers and tells the truth.  In Ontario we are saturated in propaganda, and our media doesn’t have the courage to tell the public the facts, never mind our government, who are elected largely on the support of the teachers’ unions.

I think it’s very funny that the champions of the status-quo and teacher unions here in Ontario often chide education reformers as being puppets of the American reform system, yet, from this teacher, it’s clear to me that our Ontario teachers unions are looking south of the border for their talking points because they’re identical.

Guess it’s ok for the unions and their puppet parents but not ok for reformers to look south for their inspiration.

Chuck,

... that, or looked at another way ... we know of one self-styled education consultant here in Ontario.  Maybe he was the speech writer for the union in New Jersey?  Message sure sounds the same.  wink

Vanishing breed?  Back in vogue in some states, where speaking the truth, although may be disagreeable and harsh to some. And even in some provinces…......in Canada.

The teacher in the video clip, complained about NJ having some of the best schools in the nation, and launches into more spin, on how the poor teachers are victims.

Well, I just read another article on NJ, and the article is dated September 22, where owner of Facebook, is donated 100 million dollars to NJ, for school reform. The main announcement will take place today on Friday, at the Oprah show.

“Booker tweeted: “Looking forward to Oprah on Friday! Please tune in to learn more about what’s going on in Newark.” Christie replied: “See you in Chicago,” then added: “Great things to come for education in Newark.”

The deal also sets the stage for Christie’s announcement next week on his plans to reform the state’s schools.

Some suggested that altruism was not the only thing driving the gift.”

What the teacher states, is the opposite of the reality of urban NJ schools. “The recipient of his $100 million donation — thought to be the biggest of his young life — is the Newark, N.J., public schools, a long-struggling district that could use the money to become a laboratory for reforms.”

As long as the money doesn’t end up in the pockets of burearcrats, the hiring of more burearcrsts, and pay raises/benefits for the teachers.  This is where increased funding usually goes when governments are the recipients.
