A lesson worth learning

Here’s a thought-provoking video you can show your kids. The thrust is that scientists are not any different from the rest of us, and that anyone can become and scientist and discover important things - provided one works hard and persistently. Which is of course true for any field of endeavor…..

Just sat down to catch up on my SQE School for Thought Blogs…............this one is truly amazing and should be mandatory viewing for all kids grades 4 and up at the start of each school year.

Even with the information regarding these formulas, presented to us on paper, I wonder how many of us today would simply be able to follow along - and understand the math and the logic behind them…..I wonder…............

Eh, who cares; we have calculators and computers. Let the one between our brains turn to mush. (!)

Why is it that math and science, instead of being cultivated to the ultimate potential of each one us are simply shunned and left to the geeks? Currently I have insisted that my child STUDY her science AT SCHOOL - as it hasn’t been done for over a year. I had to put the kaybosh on gym, some field trips unrelated to anything, drama, and anything else that comes up lacking in solid foundation that could make way for science catch up. The school, being private, has taken me seriously, and being interested in student achievement did not give me much opposition.  I’m not against gym, but when it comes to osmosis vs dodgeball - you get my point.
