Education Savings Accounts for Ontario?

March 16, 2015 by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 06:32 AM

They sound too good to be true, but in Arizona and Florida parents of special needs children have access to "Education Savings Accounts" that let them spend 90% of the state funding that would have been spent on their children in public school on a wide range of educational services of their choice - like private school, tutoring, therapy, textbooks or even savings for college. The video gives an idea of what a difference this can make.

This lesson has not been lost on other states, many of which are moving in the direction of Education Savings Accounts, as the map shows (there has been a change since the map was created - Mississippi has changed its status from blue to purple, having passed a bill in the house and sent it to the senate).

If you are the parent of a special needs child, imagine what you could do with $20,000 or $25,000 a year! In Ontario, it would be so easy for the government to make this happen: education savings accounts would both save taxpayers' money and mean a world of difference for the children involved.
