A “To Do” List for the New Minister of Education

October 12, 2011 by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at 08:30 AM

Over the next few months, the new Ontario minister of education will face huge challenges in the wake of Working Families ad campaigns and College of Teacher porno scandals.

So to help the new cabinet minister roll up his or her sleeves and get to work, the Society for Quality Education has come up with a hypothetical “to do” list for the, still unannounced, new minister of education for Ontario:

1.    Make sure the faculties of education are actually teaching teachers how to teach during that proposed second year of training (and not making contacts with teen book publishers).

2.    Figure out how we are going to pay for all-day kindergarten without affecting the upper grades, especially those kids who just can't bear to leave their beloved school and hang around for a fifth year of high school.

3.    Clean up the Ontario College of Teachers disciplinary committees.

4.    Get real data on how much private tutoring is actually boosting EQAO test results without having to put that scarlet "P" on Grade three marks.

5.    Figure out how to placate the teachers’ federations this time next year when their contracts expire at the end of August.

The Society wishes our new minister good luck!

They ought to be a law banning Working Families, and their coalition of unions, spending their members’ dues on smear tactics and lies.

“Among our sponsors are:

?Elementary Teachers? Federation of Ontario
?Ontario Nurses Association
?Canadian Auto Workers
?International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 128
?International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
?Millwrights
?International Union Of Operating Engineers Local 793
?Painters District Council 46
?Ontario Pipe Trades Council
?Service Employees International Union
?United Food and Commercial Workers”

“Working Families is a not for profit organization that has the support of more than 250,000 members (and growing) representing a cross-section of Ontarians that aims to support, promote and advocate the interests of working families.”

Even their facebook site, the people who are commenting have not anything good to say about Working Families. Rather ironic, when it it the union brass that is being represented, and not the lowly union members.who do object to their campaign. No wonder they disappear shortly after a provincial election, only to reappeared again when an election writ is dropped.

Figure out a new law, with the other ministries for third party advertising dealing with associations whose only purpose is to smear political parties, using their members’ dues to finance it.

Thanks Nancy.  Very interestng.  Guaranteed that this government won’t outlaw this underhanded way of getting certain parties elected…
Our current Liberal government may as well be called what it is:  a puppet government in the pocket of the public and private unions, so they’ll never do anything to rein in the public sector unions.  When the contracts come up, they’ll make a lot of noise, but hand them raises, despite our huge debt and deficit here in Ontario.
I still wish that the media would do a better job giving us the facts…
