It is difficult to over-emphasize the importance of good teachers, especially kindergarten and grade one teachers. The research is very clear that children who get off to a strong start, particularly in reading, get a boost that lasts them all their lives. Children’s reading ability at the end of grade one is strongly predictive of their future academic success and income in later life.
