New Society to Focus on Canadian Education
TORONTO – January 15, 2004
A new Canadian source for education information was launched today. The Society for Quality Education (SQE) is a national, charitable, non-profit organization founded to advance private and public education in Canada by disseminating authoritative information on education governance and methodology.
“Up until now, much of the research and other information on how to improve education has come from the United States and other foreign jurisdictions. We plan to be a Canadian source for facts about quality education for policy makers, educators, and the general public,” said President, Malkin Dare. SQE also hopes to attract funding in order to study education improvement initiatives such as piloting a remedial reading program.
Doretta Wilson, the Society’s Executive Director, added, “SQE is also in the process of developing several projects. We are especially interested in the effects of increased parental choice and the consequences to public education.” As a first step in this direction, SQE is preparing to release a multi-media information package on Alberta’s charter schools in March 2004.
The Society is funded entirely by private donations. The website for Society for Quality Education can be found at www.societyforqualityeducation.org
